Well PC's suxxor and then they're ah-ight!

Well that's how I feel after this f'ckn weekend! I found out that the pc I had built had a non-legit OS (read that as you will). So I decided to put a legit verision of XP pro. on...

a little insight first. Why did I do this? Because M$ has now made it that when you do updates to your pc, your OS gets validated by them. Mine did not get validated! fuck...

...I had gotten my copy of XP PRO directly from the hand of M$ themselves when I went to a playtest study (HIGHLY RECOMMENED YOU SIGN UP YOURSELF IF YOU LIVE IN THE PUGET SOUND AREA - YOU GET ALL SORTS OF GOODIES).

I slap my disc my dvd drive, reboot, change my BIOS boot option to disc first, wait and...nothing! Yep, it booted right into regular windoze. Huh?!?! What?!?! Let us try that again...and again...and again...AARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

At this point I decided to call M$ themselves and maybe get some help why the disk is not loading.

M$: "Hello...This is Bob, can I please have your product key!"

Me: ah...I haven't even told you what I'm calling about yet...

M$: "I need your product key first and please give an example for letters!"

Me: (thinking: fuck! there's alot of letters - I proceed to give him letters and words... K. as in K.anga, W as in W.inney the pooh, P as in P.iglett, R as in R.oo, O as in O.wl,T as in T.igger cause that's what fucking Tiggers do best!)

M$: "So this is a product key for M$ Office, yes?"

Me: Noo, this is Win XP PRO.

M$: (in a stern voice) "Where did you get this disc"

Me: from M$ themselves in Redmond, WA. unless there is a fake M$ also in Redmond, WA.

M$: "Read everything on the disc to me"

Me: What?!?...

M$: "Read everything on the disc to me"

after researching the info...

M$: "You have the wrong key, let me give you a new one(verbally...)"

Now mind you, I haven't even begun to tell him why I'm calling.... after some more chit chat I finally get placed on hold for tech help....yeah after 15 min. I was like fuck this and hung up.

...back to the pc...

I went back into BIOS and make it ONLY boot off of the DVD drive. YES!!! Now it works... So I get the option to run UPDATE or Fresh Install. Not wanting to lose all my programs and settings I of course select UPDATE (Now before I begin to rant, if you EVER find yourself in this situtation just select FRESH INSTALL! Your life will be easier). Now onto the rant...

So I wait while it "updates" and then during a reboot during install I get a popup box looking for "VIAAGP1.SYS". Huh?!?! What?!?! (try looking for that without the find command!). SKIP IT I SAY!!! After I finished updating, I prepare myself for 3 years of updates since XP PRO had come out. I get 2 updates then a reboot, no problem. Go back to the win update, get 40+ updates needed go to install and...nothing...it just sits there saying "intinalizing".

I think okay, 40 updates gonna take awhile. Half hour later, still nothing has happened. I figure that "VIAAGP1.SYS" file has something to do with this. So I preceded to my wife's laptop and google the file I'm missing. Well in short alot of people who don't have a legit Win OS get this popup and they ask the same question I was asking myself. "WTF is VIAAGP1.SYS and where do I locate it?"

Well after digging through multiple forums/chat rooms I find out it has something to do the the motherboard. So I'm off to AMD and MSI website. I find an the file I'm looking for and now download to the tumbdrive. I had to rename the amd***.sys file to read as the "VIAAGP1.SYS" filename. Sweet, it finishes "UPDATING" (not windoze update). Again I prepare myself for 3 years of updates since XP PRO had come out.

NOPE samething again! ARGH... (This was Saturday)

Sunday morning I wake up at 7 and start running through the whole thing again. In short for 4 hours I didn't get any further. I did however have to go work.

I had picked up a tip while out, buy a new HD and do a new install. Well I didn't that either. I had an extra HD that had an old OS on there and thought that I would install that as a secondary drive and format it and install the new OS on that.

Well if you have not attempted this before, you CANNOT do this in Windoze Explorer or in DOS because it will tell you that because its snowing in Antartica and that it doesn't feel like cooporating right now...

Alright fucker, lets see how you like it if I just delete everything off of there. NOT GOOD! After rebooting, I see my desktop background but no icons, no nothing! RESET AGAIN AND AGAIN...Oh shit, what did I do?!? Okay unplug that drive and lets see if that works....NOPE! AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

So I precede to sulk for a half hour looking at new pc at various online stores on the wifes laptop... It's 10 PM sunday night at this point. Well I decided to give it one more go and if it boots up this time I am done fucking around. Let's just do a complete install!

Well it booted up and I held true to my word!!! NEW INSTALL. Everything worked correctly as it should have and THEN I got to do years of updates! By 2 AM Monday moring when all the updates finished, I decided to go to bed a happy learnt man!

and as the title says: "Well PC's suxxor and then they're ah-ight!"
